KINDLE ☆ Dead Ringer Þ Mary Burton

Some NightmaresBeside each body he leaves a simple charm bearing a woman's name Ruth Martha Judith The victims were strangers to each other but they have been chosen with the utmost care Each bears a striking resemblance to Kendall Shaw a local anchorwomaneach brutally strangled by a madman whose obsession will never endDon't FadeIn front o Despite the slow pace and the overall predictability this could have been a decent mystery novel were it not for the writingIt's been a while since an author's style irked me this much This one just screamed high school assignment writing It's like the author had lists and lists of boxes she had to tick Whenever a new character showed up a head to toe description followed from the usual hair and eye color to whatever irrelevant articles of clothing that person wore If it was a woman her breasts were automatically described in what was supposed to be a sensual manner which was about as sexy as a set of Ikea instructions There were paragraphs and paragraphs detailing what the heroine wore and how she did her makeup and hair and they were so full of dull checkpoints I could never picture anything Whenever a character entered a room you had to find out 1 how big the room was and 2 what furniture it contained even though there was nothing setting relevantatmosphere inducingcharacter developing about it Seriously just say it's an office and that's enough If you don't know architecture and don't do research on it don't try to pass it off as if you know it I'm not saying this just 'cause I'm a snob architect Those descriptions were tedious Besides nobody can tell you how big a room is from a single glance without actually thinking of a scale firstWhenever a police procedure was mentioned a whole couple of paragraphs saying X was a procedure that did a and b and c followed Yeah I can tell the author did a lot of research and that's cool but it should be seamlessly written into the story It shouldn't sound like a footnote in the middle of the page It stops the action So do the other descriptionsThen the so called romance followed Dear gods this book is written under the impression that if hot guy and hot chick meet there just has to be sexual tension between them There's no mentalpsychological connection between them Everything is physical and that's not even the problem I could get behind the idea It's just that the whole physical thing doesn't go beyond heshe is fucking hot Despite the endless listed items that make those characters sexy there's nothing that sets them apart Yes the heroine has breasts and legs Yes the guy is a man? Who has arms? There's nothing I particularly remember about him after reading 420 pages You'd faster find feathers on a tortoise than excitement in their sex sceneSpeaking of which there was a scene in which the heroine who's wearing a bra and a blouse hugs the hero who's wearing thick outside winter clothes and somehow through all those layers he can feel her nipples What are they made of? Steel bullets? Also after hundreds of pages of teasing the upcoming birth the heroine's friend is about to have the birthing scene just takes less than half a page? The child magically pops out in what feels like less than two minutes You'd think that an author that did so much research on anything else would have at least bothered to make it feel realisticAll in all I won't be reading another book by the same author It was a struggle to get past the amateur writing
