An amazing look at a psychiatric word from the inside I really enjoyed the uniue structure of the book It does lack focus and a coherent messageending at the conclusion but that's half the point Definitely worth reading

Hymn Herself ´ 3 characters

Go behind the locked doors of a psychiatric hospital with Hymn Herself the painfully self aware and occasionally psychotic narrator of House Full of Insects The book is based on Hymn's inpatient stints at McLean Hospital the famed facility that also served as the setting for. I bought this book a while ago years ago I'm pretty sure and I can't remember why I bought it This book is short flashes about what life is like in a mental hospital from the perspective of the author themselves They don't have an overarching arc as such but the book ends with getting discharged from McLean Hospital and starts with getting admitted This is a short read and the stories are short enough that you could read this in bite sized chunks if you would The language is easy to read which makes this book a uick read considering the difficult subject matter This book is unflinching if there is another word for it as the author looks at the hospital itself the people who work there the people who are admitted there and herself through the lens of when they were at their lowest It was interesting and insightful and definitely one I'm glad I read I wish it could have been longer 4 stars
