For most of this book I was really annoyed Now I know in 2013 our thinking about rape cases and rape victims has changed drastically not only from when the book was written mid 1990's but when the book is supposed to take place 1962 and on But I was so angry at the main character's parents for their attitude toward their daughter being raped this is not a spoiler and then the daughter allowing the crime to affect her life in the way it did that it was suirmy reading for me until the last third of the book I'll not give things away I'll just say DO NOT LOOK AT THE LAST FIVE PAGES BEFOREHAND Okay that should do it That being said I really enjoyed the author's description of New York City in the 1970's as well as her understanding of the judicial system and how rape cases are handled Its a fast read good for a vacation on the beach

This was definitely written in a different era and did not necessarily age well I think it might have been progressive at the time but at time but now there are too many cringe causing comments The author also has a habit of explaining the backstories of too many characters The saving grace are that the characters are likable and there were some powerful empowering moments
